Top tips from the flower fairy
Our customers come back time after
time and tell us that their flowers lasted
twice as long as they thought they would, probably because we give them lots of
lovely advice about how to keep them
looking gorgeous so they can enjoy
them for as long as possible! Here are
Vida’s top tips:

• First things first, if your flowers aren’t already
arranged in water, when you get them home
re-cut the stems at a 45 degree angle, taking
off at least 2cm with a sharp knife or secateurs.

• Strip the stems of foliage making sure no
leaves are beneath the water - they will release bacteria into the water and go all slimy and
smelly!

• Change the water every other day - it will
prevent bacteria from shortening the life span
of your flowers. This will make a far bigger
difference than any amount of flower food
will! Don’t wait until your water looks murky
to change it!

• Keep your flowers as cool as possible, and
away from draughts and radiators and mist
with water every now and then if you can.
Be careful though - some tropical flowers such
as orchids actually prefer a slightly warmer environment. Just call your florist for advice
if you’re not sure!

• Don’t put your flowers too close to a bowl of
fruit – the ethylene gas released by ripening
fruit will shorten the life span of your flowers,
just like your bananas!

• Most of all, enjoy your flowers and use having
them in your home as a good excuse to invite
friends and family over!
